What is NJHS?
The National Junior Honors Society (NJHS) are the nation's premier organizations established to recognize outstanding high school and middle level students. members of NJHS are selected for their excellence demonstrated in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. Membership in NJHS not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
Who is Eligible for NJHS?
Anyone with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.75 or higher is eligible to become a member of NJHS. To become inducted into NJHS, you must write a five paragraph essay and get 3 teachers to fill out recommendation forms. From there, the NJHS faculty will decide who will be inducted into NJHS. Whether or not you will be inducted will be determined by the level of scholarship, citizenship, leadership, character, and service you display.
What do you do in NJHS?
The goal of NJHS is to create leaders and to engage in community service. Every year you will be required to complete service learning hours. 10 hours for inductees and 20 hours for current members. While in NJHS, you will also brainstorm ideas on how NJHS can impact the school and community in a positive way.
When and Where does NJHS meet?
NJHS meetings take place on the 2nd Friday and 4th Wednesdays of each month in Mrs. Merkle's classroom (unless notified otherwise). The start of these meetings will be announced at the beginning of the school year and will continue throughout. Meeting times will alternate between old OP & Plus (now club time) and lunch shifts and after school. On these special days, you will be encouraged to wear your NJHS t-shirt that was distributed to you. On days when NJHS meets after school (2:15 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.), Parents will be expected to pick-up their children on time.
